OK, I am ticked off. I sent an Express Mail envelope to an auction house yesterday and it had some value within. I expressly checked the box for hand delivery with a signature. I requested a Proof of Delivery PDF. Well the USPS delivered it but decided to declare that Me, Myself and I waived the signature requirement. That is not OK. Is anyone aware of a new policy to just disregard what is requested?
I understand about Covid. However, I go to the grocery store, gas station, medical appointments, hardware store and do life things in general and have more and closer contact than the Post Office would have obtaining a signature.

Express Mail no longer exists. If you used Priority Mail Express, it has been ineligible for Signature Confirmation service since at least 2018. |

Hi Chris - Yes, it was PME. Why in God's name does the form allow me to check the "Signature Required" box? I never knew that you could not obtain a signature anymore. Bah |

Wait, does this also apply to Priority Mail with Signature Requested? I specifically requested and paid for signature from recipient... |

Short cuts may have been taken on this due to CV-19 contactless delivery. |

This was on the Proof of Delivery form that I requested: Quote: The recipient's signature is not available because the waiver of signature that you authorized was exercised at the time of delivery. Total BS |

Our UPS man no longer does signatures due to Covid. I think the USPS needs to rethink the whole signature idea. All it would take is a barcode inside the mailbox of the receiver of the letter/flat/package. The mailman would scan the barcode on the letter/flat/package, and then scan the barcode on the inside of the mailbox. Instant contactless proof of delivery! The software and network to support this would take some investment, but it could be done.

Yeah, just yesterday I rec'd two stamps that were sent "priority Mail Express" "signature required." The good news was they came within 2 days of my purchase. The bad news was the mail carrier just asked, "Are you "Jonathan LastName." So I said "yes." Easy to impersonate myself behind a mask. She handed the envelope over and backed quickly away, muttering something to the effect that she would sign for me. Been going on for months.
In the USPS defense, FedEx has doing the same for months as well.
I appreciate the workers are afraid, and want to minimize exposure. But there is a similarly named street on the other side of town to which we have had postal and UPS deliveries go by "accident." Including a nice mail-order rug my wife once ordered and which was never recovered, although the vendor made good with a replacement. So I do worry that this un-business-like routine will burn someone. I sure hope it does not become a new normal!

I try to meet my mail carrier at the box. No masks either way. She signs for me all the time and leaves my "package" at my door. If you ask your carrier you will hear what I hear. Overwhelmed. Running additional routes. No time. No help. UPS was running 2 people on the truck, one driver and set up, one runner with packages. Not USPS. Write yourSenator and Congressional Represenativ. Tell em to fix it. I remember when the mail came twice a day. |

The part that really bothers me is when the USPS states that they will not pay an insurance claim for loss if I waive the signature and they choose to waive it for me. That is part is so very wrong.
