Hi, I got this small Hyderabad stamp from 1912. A certain website calls this 'Seal of the Nizam', with Urdu overprint 'High Court of Justice'. Anyone knows the use/history? Why 'higher court'?
Also; I see similar stamps offered on https://stampauctionnetwork.com/GI/gi591427.cfm for nice value. But is this the same stamp? Overprint seems to vary a little.

Hi, that stamp is listed by Scott as #'s 032 or 040. It is an official stamp hence the O preface. Values of $5.25 in the 2021 Scott Classic Catalog.

Bloemzee, your stamp is in terrible condition - look at the perforations. But it is OK as a spacefiller though

This is Haydarabad 1912 Sarkari SG type O2 overprint in Urdu on 1912 ½A Sarkar Asafiyyah deep green typograph official stamp (SG O39c/Sc O40).

The central circular field shows the inscription Sarkar Asafiyyah in Farsi in calligraphic manifestation in the formation of Tugra monogram.

The panel below shows the Urdu inscription Nishan Tappah Khana, literally meaning "Symbol/Label of Post Office".

The three panels around the central field, clockwise from top left, show the denominations in Marathi, Telugu and Urdu languages respectively.

So, this stamp has 5 languages.

The overprint simply reads Sarkari i.e. "Official" in Urdu.

The ovpt. has nothing to do with High Court of Justice though the stamp was authorized for use on official mails of High Court of Justice, Haydarabad.

If anyone interested, here is a short description of the inscriptions on Haydarabad 1931 2A High Court of Justice at Haydarabad, Haydarabad deep mulberry SG 44/Sc 42.

Explain how the stamp could also be Sc O32.
