Hi, I got this Dutch 50 cent, nice soft olive colour. What I noted is the dotted cancel with number 45. https://allanwestphall.com/stamps/n...lecting.html suggests such cancels were used in the Netherlands colony the Indies. Is this truly one of those cancels from that region? Which region?

The numbered dot cancels were used in the colonies, but also in the Netherlands itself. In your case, the number 45 cancel was used in the city of Groningen, Netherlands.

The number 45 cancel used in the Netherlands Indies was this one:

which has an open "4" and yours is a closed "4".

I've never seen a Netherlands Indies cancel on a Netherlands stamp.

Jan
