Hi, I got this blue 25 centime stamp from France, depicting Ceres. It was placed in my album under '1870'. I am not aware of imperforate blue 25 Ceres stamps from that or following years? It seems to me this stamp is from 1849-1850, right?

The tightness of the margins is suspicious, think I can see perf traces at the bottom margin. |

I know almost nothing about French non-colony stamps and the first thing I thought when I saw this stamp was "this was trimmed." Completely anecdotal; but just does not look right. |

My 2014 Classic Specialised has the French Colonies 25c at $13 and the France 25c at $40
Considering we're not talking about vast sums of money I'm surprised somebody bothered to trim the Colonies issue.
Given there is a 23 year gap between the two, does anyone know if the same plate was employed? |

Bobby - I think the trimming would have been that of the French perforated 25c stamp issued after 1871. |

Yes, must tattoo that on my wrist. The 1871-72 Colonies issues were printed from the same plates as the first French issue. |

In meantime I compared a few stamps supposedly truly from 1849, and I definitely get your points. Wasn't a bad decision after all from the original owner of my album to put the stamp under '1870'. 60+ years ago he apparently figured the same.... |

The Yvert-Tellier catalog mentions 3 types for this stamp (with perforations) The stamps for the colonies are the same as the stamps for France with the only difference that they are not perforated. I hope it will help you |
