Hello From Louisiana

Hello everyone! I've taken advantage of down time from the recent winter storm/snow to dive into my Father's stamp and coin collections we've inherited. I have literally boxes and boxes and more boxes of stamps he collected to go through. My limited research so far reveals that I need far more knowledge to know what we really have, but the sheer volume of his collection makes it seem like a daunting cause. So, I was relieved to find a forum as informative and welcoming as this. Thanks beforehand for all your help.

Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences.

They call stamp collecting the hobby of a lifetime. I have been collecting since I was 8 and I am in my 70s now. My collecting has gone in cycles of activity over that time.

I recommend you read through the topic here about Stamp Collecting Philosophy.

Do you think you are likely to become a collector or are you planning to dispose of your father's collection? Probably the first question you need to answer.
