I recently found a 1907 George Washington 2c, and a 1912 George Washington 1c stamp. The postcards were framed and we just discovered the stamps after removing the cards from the frame. What should I do next to figure out value? I've tried attaching pictures to this message but it's being difficult. I'm wanting to know if this is all a waste of time or not.
Welcome. Those stamps were printed in the millions (or even billions) but there are a few varieties which are rare. The odds that your postcards have one of the rare varieties is similar to winning a mega-lottery but it can be fun to learn about the stamps and the postal history surrounding them. You can learn more about your stamps using the 'visual identifier' here https://stampsmarter.org/1847usa/1847Home.html Don
Thank you for the response! It's daunting if you're not familiar with stamps, BUT SOMEONE HAS TO HIT THE LOTTERY RIGHT? Are there places I can go and get it appraised or is that not worth doing?
Unde, don't get your hopes up. Stamps from that era in those denominations were (as already pointed out) are generally not worth much at all when used. Generally pennies. In many instances the postcard itself with the stamp still affixed to said card might have more value than the stamp itself and that is generally not a good bet either in terms of value. All depends on the subject/sender/recipient and so forth.
With photos, a lot of people here can tell you quickly what you have.
Thanks for the response Andy! Don has been amazingly helpful so far and I just emailed him the pictures. It's awful seeing ebay search results and getting your hopes up!
