Hi,

I came across this stamp, but am having a hard time finding it in Scott.

The underlying stamp is Timor Scott # 32, the 200 Reis dark blue, on light blue paper. On top of this is the black "22 AVOS" surcharge with ornament at the bottom, which is for the 1902 provisional issue (at this stage it is Scott# 102). Then it has the carmine "Republica" overprint of 1915 (at this stage it is Scott# 193).

At this point, I'm not sure where to go next. It looks like the 22 avos overprint was blocked out and the ornament at the bottom was overprinted with "5 Reis". In addition, it looks like "C.I." was overprinted to the left of the "Republica and blocked out "22" overprint.

Any ideas about where I might find it/what catalogue number it is? It's a bit of a mystery to me (it also doesn't help that my Scott 2017 Classic Specialized doesn't show any references for this stamp as to where I might find overprinted or surcharged versions, which Scott shows sometimes for other stamps...).

Thanks!

I believe this is a revenue/fiscal stamp with C.I. = contribuição industrial. Since it is on a 1915 postage stamp, it is slightly too late for inclusion in the Forbin catalog. Still, that catalog has other colonies also with that class of revenue listed. Perhaps someone has a Portuguese revenue catalog to confirm or deny.
