As the recipient knew your correct address, they could have simply struck over the wrong part of the address as well as the bar code and write, "Unknown here, try 123 Main Street, Zip 00501" then handed it back or dropped it in a mail box.


Me, I grew up on and my parents lived 50 some years on a six letter Ave and the next street over (around our block) was another six letter Ave with the same street numbers and the only difference was the first letter, a 'R' vs a 'P' The Rs got to know the Ps really well in the six block long parallel stretch. We all knew when a carrier unfamiliar with the route or in need of glasses was delivering mail that day. Yes and in recent times, UPS, FedEx, DHL, Amazon etc. have the same issues.
