Hi all,
I am looking for a preprinted hingeless album for my US classic collection. I've read several threads here in the Forum that compare different albums (Scott, Mystic, Lighthouse, etc.) about the binders, the mounts, and so on. I could not found a comparison about the "coverage" of the stamps. If I missed it, please redirect me to the right thread. In the seller websites it is impossible to find any clear information about the depth of coverage (does the album have only major catalogue numbers or also some varieties? Does it include also spaces for very expensive stamps?). On one hand, I don't want to get an album with too limited coverage, but on the other hand it's not nice to have an album full of empty spaces because it covers so many varieties and subtypes of the same stamp.

Any comment and help from people who own or know the available hingeless albums is welcome! I should also say that, for some reason, I don't like turnbar binders very much, I would prefer to buy an album with ringbinders (though I never tried them, so this is a sort of "prejudice", I feel like they are not easy to turn pages and to work on compared to ringbinders).

Many thanks!

Hello Ignorans - I housed my classic US collection in a Schaubek hingless album. Schaubek uses Scott numbering and the hingeless pages have the same coverage for stamps as the Scott National pages do which is to say very comprehensive. Unless you are very wealthy you will end up with empty spaces. The binder is a 6 ring type.

They are backordered at many retailers in the US and the shipments from Germany are not expected until at least September 2021. You may fare better.

Years ago I started with Lighthouse pages, though not hingeless. They have space for all issues including perforation and watermark varieties. You do not get spaces for the government reprints issued in the 1870's but you do get simplified Farleys. I don't recall if it included Officials.

The turnbar albums available today are not as good as the ones from 30 years ago; the action is not as smooth. Lighthouse also makes ring binders (13 rings) which are nice, and springback styles.

Some of my albums are 35 years old and as good as new (binder and pages).
