Lapsed Collector Joining Back In, From Upstate NY

Hi all! I'm a 25 year old collector who's been collecting since about 2006, (so about 15 years now? A bulk of my life nonetheless!) and the recent passing and inheritance of my Grandfather's collection has reinvigorated my interest in the hobby.

I previously was very casually collecting Canada & Japan issues from 20 & 21th Century, only picking up things that caught my eye over the past ~5 years, and never really bothered with American stamps because they seemed boring. My Grandfather however, was an avid American collector, collecting Mint issues since the 1960's when he was in the Air Force. His unfortunate passing in February led to me inheriting his large collection, which I am currently sorting and cataloguing, and it has truly revitalized my interest in the hobby. I've signed up with the APS and I'm looking forward to trying to complete his goal of Mint 20th & 21st Century USA. I'm using the software "StampManage," and it has been tremendously helpful alongside a copy of the Scott American Specialized catalogue from 2010.

In addition to USA Mint, Canada, & Japan, I'm also interested in Floral and Baseball (Go Phillies!) stamps, and I have a decent amount that still needs to be properly organized, but must say, I am very much looking forward to doing so after I eventually fully organize the American collection (I'm currently finishing the 1940's.)

Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. This was the era of Richie Ashburn and Robin Roberts—two who ultimately made it to the Hall.

I currently root for the Washington Nationals but underneath it all I am a Dodger fan, having seen my first games at Ebbets Field while Richie Ashburn and Robin Roberts were also playing. My hero was Pee Wee Reese, followed by Duke Snider, Gil Hodges and Roy Campanella.

My family was living in Brooklyn when Dem Bums won their first World Seies in 1955 - and I remember the hubbub in the city when they won. But the neighbor kids told me I could not root for the Dodgers because my name was Bobby Thomson.

I don't collect baseball on stamps but maybe I should!

You will find all the information you ever wanted and more on this site. I have had many times since I started collecting that I fell away from it for a while, but it is the hobby of a life time. I can only hope that my granddaughter, who is almost three, becomes interested enough in collecting to want my collection when I move on.
