They are bidding on 3 bags of Canada Post undeliverable goods. Three, not a whole pile like in the picture. There is a warning that these are returned retail items that may not be any good. It's at $975 and it reminds me of those Storage Wars fails...

There was a tv show on last year that followed different people that bought pallets of returned goods and sold the contents online. Fun to watch andf they bid on and paid good money for the boxes. Sometimes they would be told that it would be all sporting goods or tools etc.. Gambling 101.

I would wager about $100 max. on something like this. I am terrible at selling and wouldn't know what to do with a bunch of ladies underwear, phone chargers and fidget spinners...

CMagoo.

Sounds like it's time for the proverbial father-son chat.

You lost me. Is that dibs on the underwear? Someone is spending a lot more than $100 to see what is inside.

Are those even officially sealed post office bags of any sort or is that just random garbage bags anyone could fill with leftover items from the original lot? Looks like the latter... which means the buyer is placing a lot of faith the good items haven't already been long since picked over.

About a year ago, I found a bunch of videos on YouTube showing people opening their cartons from Amazon, filled with returns. VERY similar to this - buyer has no idea what's inside (maybe buying in a particular category - clothes, housewares, electronics, etc) Amazon would state what the retail value was before the items were returned and, as I recall, the 'gambler' would pay between 15c and 33c on the dollar.

The buyers would turn the stuff around and sell the items at whatever venue they thought appropriate. They seemed to be 'professionals' looking for 'stock'. There are plenty of people out there willing to make such a gamble, but they tend to be resellers rather than people looking to get lucky and find that 'thing' that they've been hoping to get at a discount.

Because they are Amazon returns, much of the stuff was 'crap' - people returning empty boxes for a refund, returning a similar used item in the new item's box, etc. That, and no idea what you are getting, means this isn't anywhere 'worth it' to me.

Sounds like the list property/lost luggage auctions that are common here - and doubtless in the US. Possible cheap fun/easy profit if you don't spend much on them.
