Scott #304 5c Blue - Plate Crack ?

Hi All. I came across this the other day. Rather well travelled (it landed in a schoolboy album in the UK in the 1930s) #304, but with what looks like a plate crack down the right margin. Is this what it is?

Johl 'US stamps of the 20th Century' Vol. 1 p.69 (the only reference I have to hand) seems to refer to a similar crack. Hope the scans show it OK. Thanks.

The picture could be a lot better, but it certainly could be cracks. It could also be bad plate wiping.

Yes, I would agree they are plate cracks. French, in his Encyclopaedia of Plate Varieties on US Bureau-Printed Postage Stamps records plate cracks on this issue on two different left straight edge positions [ 304 10), 304 11)] which look like your cracks, but yours are obviously in a different position. A pair [304 12)] is also recorded with the crack between the stamps which may refer to yours as one of the pair positions. These are the French listing numbers for position unknown examples he recorded.
