Is This A Royal Mail Auxiliary Marking?

Greetings!

I was wondering if (i) Royal Mail was the one who marked this envelope as 'Large Letter First Class Post', and (ii) if Royal Mail would've applied this mark because of the presence of both 1st Class and 2nd Class stamps.

Just a guess, but more likely that it was applied by the sender in the hope of avoiding confusion by the post office. I usually write something similar by hand on ebay lots plastered with old commemoratives.
