Oneco CT Post Office

For those who use Maurice to acquire USPS material, I just got this notice in my last order. Most everything before 2021 "must go".

I got a similar notice. Ordered what I could. I will be very disappointed if the service gets shut down. So much better than usps.com.

How do we know what stock exists? Is it listed online?

Let me know if I have connected the dots correctly:

Maurice is PM of the PO in the Thread Title and it was a good spot to make philatelic orders by mail or phone (both available on the internet). However, now the post office is slated to be closed (discontinued). This is not a closure of just a philatelic window.

I got a letter from Maurice dated April 30 and received on Monday. The letter didn't say his office was closing, just that he must reduce inventory by 80%. Of course, that may have changed in a week.

He's a fantastic guy.

This story is a bit enigmatic and could use some fleshing out for us that are less in the know.

Maurice is the Oneco CT postmaster and is legendary for his philatelic service and support for collectors of modern US issues. He ordered all the current issues and filled order promptly.

FYI: Postmasters are accountable for all monetary items for sale in their Post Office. According to business activity, their liability is held to a prescribed cap on their total inventory of all items. If he has been audited (live or by remote) & is found to exceed his cap by a certain percentage, he must reduce the inventory, either by sale or mandatory stock return. This is especially true of items from previous issue years that may still show on his inventory (I suspect that is why the date prior to warning is given in his note). Although he is a very customer & philatelic customer friend he needs to maintain the accountability of the office. (I remember doing an inspection in a Station in Boston & was shown the supply closet of non-accountable postal forms & supplies & found 50 year old forms that had been stockpiled, never to be used because the forms were outdated.) Stamps & $$ items which are all accountable to the Postmaster or Station Manager need to be kept at their cap limit or they show an excess Office liability on the books) Office closure is not the issue, over cap stock is.
