An Argentina Conundrum (For Me)

I have 2 Argentine stamps whose cancels don't have a town name atop them but rather, I think, they say: "DEPENDENCIA No. 12" (I haven't put images here because my scans are too hard to read.)
Anybody know what such a cancellation is referring to?
My thanks in advance for any help.

In that particular context "dependencia" means something like "office" or "unit"
