Several of the Trucial States first issues, including BOB, had designs similar to the Ajman stamp below. All are Scott listed. I loved these stamps as a kid and still have the complete sets in my collection. They were definitely an influence.

I have to agree that they did have an influence on me. All the Emirates from the U.A.E.. I got hooked by the engravers and then serious about collecting when I began to acquire the U.A.E. stamps. They showed just how much design work they can force in a stamp border. @rod22 I also have your Apollo 12 set. That was the one that sent me over the top collecting U.A.E. stamps. After figuring out who they were, where were they located and how it all worked.

The 8 stamp definitive set issued by RAK in 1964. For Scott, this set comprises the "complete country." Gibbons lists many more issues. Not my images.

The monkey souvenir sheet does not show a gorilla.
A silverback gorilla is just the dominant male of a gorilla troop.

I think the obscure monkey species depicted is the Dusky Leaf Monkey (Trachypithecus obscurus), from Asia.

The dusky Leaf monkey is not listed as in Africa.

The Asian monkey souvenir sheet DOES belong, inadvertently, to the African fauna 6 stamp set. Look at the font.
It's the designer's fault for including a non-African species in the African set.

It's Michel Catalog "specialist's fault" for listing it as "silver-white gorilla". Ain't no taxonomist, that person...but it's a matter of general culture.

Another mistake is to design "a white gorilla stamp", in the apes set, when there was ONLY ONE such albino gorilla specimen in the world.

possibly merely quoting the inscription on the label, for ID.
(which I failed badly)
Sometimes Scott descriptors, alter the inscription on stamps,
and writing their own, widely known name (Flora etc)

He also makes a brief appearance in Italo Calvino's novel Mr. Palomar – the passage is a meditation on loneliness, captivity, the burden of being unique in the world, and mortality.
