Anyone recognize this postmark?
The stamp is from 1878...
Thanks for help!

Sorry,
nothing in my reference material.
Appears to be another letter after KOMM- (or end of the box)

German Philatelic usage,
IN KOMM = In progress
But I doubt any relevance here.

Thanks, rod...
I agree that there's one more letter after KOMM...
And then there's another letter after a space.
So, appears to be two words.

I searched Brazil Foreign Cancels (Author unknown)
No Boxed of similar design.
My Guess is an Arrival or transit marking.

Most common German strikes, are "AUS BRASILIEN"
"AUS SUDAMERIKA VIA HAMBURG" and "SCHIFFSBRIEF"

I couldn't find any Brazilian placenames that included "komm" and I found only one with "kom", Sitio Komura, named after a Japanese immigrant.

I wonder if it's a foreign Registered handstamp?

For example: REKOMMANDIERT (German) or REKOMMENDERAT (Swedish) etc.

I've seen "Rekommandiert" used on Austrian and Swiss covers.

One can always rely on our Nigel for quality input

I had been thinking Sweden for the KOMM but not even considered the
REKOMMANDIERT registrations
Nice one Nigel.

Thanks Rod.

Here's a Norwegian registered cover with a REKOMMANDERT handstamp:

(from the Internet)

I assume a handstamp like this would usually be applied when originally posted but I guess it could have been added on occasion on arrival if a particular item's status wasn't clear.

This is all guesswork on my part!
