I've had this stamp in my German occupations collection for quite some time, but since I have neither a Scott nor a Michel to identify any of them, I've not really done anything except accumulate stuff like this. I've heard that these can be quite valuable, but I'm not sure if this is one of them. So, is there anyone out there that can help me identify this, number one, and tell me how to determine whether or not it's a forgery, number two. If you look real close the second word reads "Bezetzuag" rather than the "Bezetzung" that one would expect... Thanks in advance for any and all information you might be able to give me on this. -Allen

I can look it up in Michel for you this Evening. F.Y.I. MOST of the Zara on the market are forgeries. I think this is one of them. But, I will check for you. |

I just did a quick check on my laptop this is a legitimate error type. However, that does not mean it is a legitimate overprint! |

Allen, Hate to break it to you but it is absolutely a forgery. 1)Both "S" should be flat on top with angular lines going down(not rounded. 2)Top of "R" totally wrong 3)2nd "e" in Deutsche inside downward stroke WAY to thick There are other problems with it as well. Good News is that if you want to trade it I would be happy to give it a home on my German Forgery Reference/Comparison sheet. |

Here is a scan of a real overprint. You can see it is MUCH sharper and you can compare for further differences if you wish. |

Thank you very much revstampman! Exactly the information I was hoping for, and suspected. I'd be happy to trade it for a nice revenue... whatever you feel is comparable. Send me an email with your address and I'll get it out in the mail to you.

Sorry, No I don't. My Primary collecting interests are US Revenues and Tax Paids, Pre 1947 Germany, German States and Occupations. Most of my Literature also runs in that direction (including forgeries). Minor interest in WW Revenues. I retired My WW Collection 20+ years ago. On a rare occasion I'll add a classic or 2. So, I have minimal need for them. I do have some but they are not really organized. Honestly I don't know why I keep them. Other than that they amaze me with their quality.
If you have a specific one I will be happy to try to assist you. |

Revstampman, My revenue collection is only at the beginning stages of forming, so just about anything that isn't the very basics will work. The private dies section is totally empty at this point, so if there's something that's appropriate in that area, I'd welcome it much. I received your email and I should get a chance either tomorrow or this weekend to go through and find some of that other questionable stuff. I seem to remember a couple of Laibach and some overprinted russian stuff...
