Well I find stamp tongues a bit of a problem with mint stamps. I prefer tweezers, myself.

For whatever reason, it seems the "Americana" series of stamps has an unusually high EFO rate, as I've seen many examples of color missing, imperforate and other similar EFO's on several denominations of stamps from that series.

By the way, am I seeing some sort of a letter or number on the second stamp at the top of the feather quill?

And if one were to really flyspeck that pair of stamps, did you notice the "nib" on the bottom of the quill looks different between the two stamps? Could it be attributed to over-inking?

Looks like an 'e' or a reversed '9' in red. Interesting.

Extra finger ! [Design error]

Are you sure that's an extra finger and not his cuff?
There is a white cuff sticking out from his other sleeve, and the "extra finger" is whiter, less shaded despite being underneath the others. Also it is pointed, like the edge of a cuff meeting the edge of his sleeve, not rounded like a finger.
