Here is the first error - albeit super minor - I ever found.

Three omitted perforations between US 1940 1 cent Defense Issue Sc #899. I was a boy at the time and got quite excited. I understand Scott doesn't consider blind perforation even an error, but still....

There's no trace of a perf on front or back, not even a dent. I've always assumed there were broken teeth or pins on the perforater but if someone knows how this skipping of perfs happens, please tell me.

After that I was always on the look-out and did find a few more isolated missing perfs. My best haul came from the US 1966 6 cent FDR Sc #1284 where I found at least three skips on one sheet. Two were single perfs skipped on the horizontal run, and one a single skip vertically. I suspect there was a fourth that I traded with a pal from school who also collected. Again, not a trace front or back of even a dent where the missing perf should be

Here are some of the US 1975 13 cent liberty bell (Sc #1618) which also exhibited single skips in the coil perforation. Front and back are clean as a whistle where the missing perforation should be.

Those two I found as a teenager. My father then banned me from taking stamps from the desk....

Recently, filling out an order to economize on shipping, I picked up a misperforated joint line pair of the same. This time, in addition to the misalignment of the perforation, there is one skipped perf. However, there is a dent showing on the back so I suspect the perforator was developing a problem, failed to cut through and the gum then ensured it stayed closed.

U.S. Scott 3CVP1 and 3CVP3 are little-known computer-vended postage stamps from Stamps.com intended as make-up rate stamps in the pre-Forever stamp era. One stamp in each pane of 3CVP1 is missing the "E" in U.S. POSTAGE. This error is cataloged as Scott 3CVP1a. One example of 3CVP1a in my collection has "U.S. POSTAG" doubled, resulting in an error and a freak in one stamp.

Robert

Edit: Corrected punctuation.

Here is Austria Scott 440 with a defect between the U and B of REPUBLIK. If you can't find it, someone has conveniently printed an arrow on the stamp to point it out.
