There's been some discussion about a Belgian precancel catalog, and I'd love to acquire one of those as well, but what I'd really like to find is a Belgian precancel album. Is there such a creature?

At this moment I have double checked a Variety of websites and contacted a few dealers all have stated, that they have not seen or heard of a precancel album. I would state that maybe you might wish to one of the first to create one. Christopher |

Christopher, I would be tempted to do exactly that, except for the fact that I don't have a catalog to work from...

Ah, yes it does, but as established over in the other thread, the catalog is virtually impossible to find as well. :(

The COB is common, correct. But the Belgian precancel catalogue (published by the same guys) is much more difficult to find. The COB only lists the typographed precancels, none of the hand roller precancels are included. And there are far more hand rolled precancels than typographed precancels. In 1913, the year of the original stamp we were talking about, there are 8 different typographed precancels and 171 different hand rolled precancels, not including the different orientations of the precancel found so far - when you include those, it bumps up to 420 different or something like that.
And to make matters worse, the newer COB doesn't seem to include any of the town precancels any longer. Only the generic ones (1938 and later) are included. At least, that's the case with my copy, which is a 2007 Flemish edition.

I too am not aware of a Belgian precancel album.
I made my own album by following the COB catalogue. My version is the 1997 edition and I used "Word" for the album itself.

Ok, I see now... I didn't realize there were two different catalogs there.

There is a Belgium precancel album, in the form of the Steinner pages on Stampalbums.com. 23 pages for general and 28 pages for local. At least in my 2004 CD. |

I've used a lot of pages from this site - mainly for French Colonies, which are, I think, amended Steiner pages avec Yvert numbers. I was thinking about the pre-cancels, but got sidetracked. |
