US Scott 583 Plate Flaw?

I have a Scott 583 2c Washington, perf. 10, that appears to have either a plate flaw or an arrow like ink streak in Washington's hair. Since I cannot find anything about a plate flaw in the catalog is this just a freak ink line? Has anyone else seen a similar line?

My guess is that these are all inking anomalies. The one here, plus the ones on your thread, rlmstamps2012, appear similar - a thick streak about the same length and shape. Looks like a blob of 'something' got mixed into the printing process and left its mark.

If it WERE a plate flaw, one would think something so obvious would have been documented in the plate variety 'press'.

As to how many examples would it take to get it listed in Scott, I doubt anyone (except Scott) really knows. There would have to be at least 2 identical marks to prove a plate anomaly, then after that the listing criteria is somewhat vague. Whether something is listed or not has some basis in how 'popular' the variety is - how much 'buzz' is there in the philatelic world over it.
