Unusual Great Britain Cancel

Any thoughts on this cancel? It seems unusually basic and I haven't seen another quite like it. Thanks!

Cancel does seem unusual, but that is a beautiful stamp!

My immediate thought was it is a fiscal cancel. Perhaps from an insurance document?

The high value QV & KE7 issues from Great Britain are some of the most attractive stamps ever produced IMO.

There are approx 10 examples of CANCELLED hammers / impressions
of British stamps, of various designs.
Mainly for bulk mails, or, the impression includes the Department from whence the hammer was employed.

No examples of impressions from your epoch.
Hence my opinion would be that of Bobby De la Rue's response.
The value of the stamp, would also support that, together with a lack of a department inscription.

So, following Bobby de la Rue, I'm leaning toward this being a fiscal cancel for the time period.

Still, were there any oval parcel cancels like this/this size?

Regarding the Mauritius two pence stamp, Note in SG British Commonwealth Catalogue:

"Cancelled" Overprints. Following the change of currency in 1878 various issues with face values in sterling were overprinted "CANCELLED" in serifed type and sold as remainders.
