I like to look "stuff" up.

Just a few weeks(Jul. 28, 1954)before the actual launch. Would have been nice to have the contents. I imagine it may have been an offer for subscription.

Speaking of Sports Illustrated, they ran a great article on Herman Herst, Jr called "Absolutely Stuck on Stamps" in 1971: https://vault.si.com/vault/1971/08/...ck-on-stamps

Hard to believe there was a time that stamp collecting would be considered close enough to a proper 'sport' as to warrant inclusion in SI. Fantastic reading nonetheless!

Don't wish to imagine Herman in a bathing suit; but the story on him was very nice to see.

Found this cover of first issue online. It can be had on ebay for a few hundred dollars, up to a graded one (stated - "never been opened" for $9995.

A few years ago, I gave away a complete run of the first 6 years to a good friend (nice stored in binders his issued). I 'saved' it from being thrown out back in the late 1960s when I helped an elderly retired judge make room in his Westbrook CT library. I enjoyed reading through them over the decades but it was something that needed to be passed on to someone else.
