Norway: Scott #180 /Facit #240. 1937-38, Haakon VII 5.00Kr
Cancelled Kopervik 27 XI 39
The story on this one and others at the time is pretty interesting.
Invalidated for postage on Sept. 30, 1940 after the Germans invaded Norway (9 April 1940). The Germans confiscated what stocks were on hand, and sold abroad (doesn't say to who?)
Declared again valid for postage on Sept. 1,1981.
Described in Scott, Facit is a bit more clear on some of the details in this area.
Price differential on stamps properly used in period ( before confiscation) are
quite a bit higher than those after.
Facit mentions several towns as false cancellations, this was not one.
I think this is quite a nice pair all on its own, and hope it is a proper in period cancel.
Would like to hear from anyone who has further details on these.
Thanks,
Pat
