Again a new seller, based in Greece, selling some 85 fakes on ebay for high prices.
This are exactly the same stamps previously sold by a seller in Taiwan. At least the Taiwan seller mentioned clearly that it are reproductions But for the Greece seller, there is no mentioning that these stamps are reproductions of fakes.
I tried to communicate 2 times with ebay.
First time a week ago I just got the standard reply they will look into it if the seller violates any rules so NOTHING happened.
Second time I communicated with ebay that there is no Fake or reprint or whatever on the backside of the stamp. That I was victim 2 years ago buying a same stamp from on otherwise reputable seller, I received the same standard email from ebay they will look into it, so nothing happened of course
2 days ago a buyer posted 7 negative feedback for this seller for selling fakes. Nothing happened, the seller is still happily selling.
ebay not seems to care at all!!!
PS I also wrote a message to the seller in Greece telling him please to stop posting fake stamps on ebay, of course no answer back

But the seller says the buyer is lying about the fakes but did refund the buyer's money and allow him to keep the stamps.

On the other hand...

In the past 6 or so years I started a sub-category in my collection for forgeries of U.S. stamps. Some are more expensive / valuable than the original, however the ones in Scott's were generally forgeries sold to unsuspecting mail patrons for postage. I do have a few of these.

Most of my forgeries were created with the intent to dupe collectors. I buy them as forgeries but only when I can get them cheap.

Other then that... As I posted in another thread, my wife bought 'discounted postage' via Farcebook marketplace from someone "closing an office" long story short I fond them to be actual forgeries, alerted the Postal Inspectors and so on.

BUT.. By using PayPal to pay for them we could open a case with PayPay and got a refund in fairly short order. However, I'm not sure how well buyer protection works with international purchases.

Many folks use the term 'forgery' to describe stamps which were made to fool collectors and the term 'counterfeit' to describe stamps meant to fool postal systems.

In my experience, ebay is only really responsive to IP violations, when the IP owner complains about piracy. Other stuff from the likes of you or I is taken more... casually.

The combo of ebay and PayPal has been great, in my experience. Opened a case for a purchase I hadn't yet received (about a month after it had been shipped from Europe), figured there'd be some back and forth. Instead, out of nowhere I got a refund: ebay said the seller hadn't given them a valid tracking number. For them, it seems a transaction is a transaction is a transaction; geography doesn't matter.

redwoodrandy,

1 method I used is to use the Report item, in my screen just above the item number on the right hand side of the page.

2nd method is use on the very bottom of the page; Help and contact, then you have to be a little creative. I selected buying and in the next field Item never arrived. In this field I put the item number I complained about and explained about reproductions and fakes. A little bit indirect but there is no other choice given by ebay.

I also do collect fakes as long the price is reasonable. I paid for the fake pair on ebay 2 years ago $5. When I bought it, I know it was a fake and the Taiwan seller even clearly mentioned "reproduction"
Better than the scumbags in Greece in the start of this thread.
I collect them as reference collection'

Unfortunately sellers of modern forged stamps are fueled by so called 'collectors' who buy them to see what they look like.

I have no troubles with sellers of reproduction stamps as long as they clearly state the stamps are reproduction and clearly mark the stamps as such. These stamps have a market as space fillers. Many times it are very rare stamps people will not be able to buy in their lifetime.
However these stamps must be clearly marked as such to avoid buyers of these items to resell them to unsuspected collectors.

I have major troubles with people like in the start of the tread selling reproductions pretending them to be the real thing and cheating the unsuspected buyers This is fraud and criminal.
