Looking at a saved seller's e-bay listings yesterday I noticed this stamp from Finland: Scott #1287 issued May 9, 2007, Centenary of Tampere Cathedral. What caught my eye was the man and wreath image on what I assume would be called a tag (?), to the left. My 2016 Scott Catalog does not show the "tag" nor comment on it. Neither is it shown with the Stamp World image of the stamp. I'm guessing that it is perhaps associated with the art work of the cathedral?

Does anyone have more knowledge about this stamp? Thank you.

This type of festoon, or swag was used by Finland before, on its 1986 Christmas set of 3. Also, I think they have used it earlier than that on a stamp or banknote.

Unless I'm mistaken, the Romans first used the botanical swag as an architectural decoration. So, it could very well be a part of neoclassical church design in Tampere. But, I sure don't know.

Nice descriptive explanation Bob
Festoon, Roman architectural decoration.
Fascinating.
wiki
A festoon (from French feston, Italian festone, from a Late Latin festo, originally a festal garland, Latin festum, feast) is a wreath or garland hanging from two points, and in architecture typically a carved ornament depicting conventional arrangement of flowers, foliage or fruit bound together and suspended by ribbons. The motif is sometimes known as a swag when depicting fabric or linen

Here is a link to google image search with "Tampereen tuomiokirkko" (Tampere cathedral). From them you can see both where the stamp image comes from and where the tab image comes from.
