Postal Card UX104 (S121b)Missing tag — ISSUE OF 1984 Rancho San Pedro, CA

You always get a little excited when you think you may have found something.

Was going through a stack of duplicate cards, checking to see I had the best example in the book. Running the light across a few of them, took a moment to notice something looked different.
Looking closely could see no presence of Phosphorescent block overlay tag on stamp portion of card.
Be nice to add to the collection.

Opinions appreciated.
Thanks,
pat

Best I could do for a photo.
Cards side by side under same light.

There does appear to be very, very light tagging on the bottom card. Best to get a second opinion from an expert or an expertization group like APEX or PF. To be S121b the tag must be completely missing.

Yes, the TAGGING is missing. And please call it "tagging" because "tag" is something different

I agree with Bill, I think I see faint tagging as shown here

You can see the tagging in the trees too.

Thanks all. Other eyes on are helpful. I don't think I am confident enough to send it in.

There does appear to be a shadow of something there.

I think there is suppose to be some yellow in the trees??

I like Petert4522 opinion the best.(Because he said it was missing)
I'll let UPSS know their nomenclature is incorrect. (just kidding)

(from catalog)
-13˘ Rancho San Pedro. Multicolor (magenta, yellow, cyan and black) on white card. Phosphorescent block overlay tag on stamp.

-S121b Tag missing (c)

-Missing tags must be completely clear of any phosphorescent signature.

They do seem to intersperse tag-tagging-tagged in the appendix description, but are clear on this:

* Since the tagging can be easily altered or masked by an experimenter, a normally tagged issue found without tagging should be considered suspect until the card can be verified by the U.S. Postal Service, by this catalog's Editorial Board or by qualified experts.

Best to all,
pat

I do not see what the others are finding. How strong is your UV lamp? Also sometimes the paper in this time (1984) is treated to make it look whiter ( hibrite ) and that may be what the UV light sees

Lights are not high-end, but I did use (two), one from each side to get the overhead shot.

I wonder, since this is kind of like a fifth color application, could it have been run through a dry roller.

Or, to be completely missing (tagging), it would to have bypassed that stage of the process.
