I have been looking on the NY Stamps ebay website and have come across something I don't understand.

Each listing contains a reference such as "G13x234" or "G13x132"

What do these references mean?

Thanks,
Jack Kelley

Hi Jack - I assume that it is an inventory identifier. Posner does something similar.

That's what I was thinking too. I might give them a call and ask them.

Thanks,
Jack Kelley

Yes, that is an inventory number to help them find the right item to ship. They could just stick it in the "custom label" field in ebay but it's just easier to put it at the end of the title. I do the same thing with a sequential item number.

One additional point I'll mention about those stock numbers in the titles on ebay... when using their file exchange to upload hundreds/thousands of ads at a time, it will bomb if any two have the same title. Putting the unique stock number in the title keeps that from happening.
