Sept. 3 Quiz: How's Your Eye For Detail?

Oh god I feel terrible too! When I asked how it was possible to know stamps so well I meant it in an ah shucks sort of way like, God will I ever be that good? Of course I knew image searches were used (I myself tried many many times but never found a single stamp with my methods, so I commend vayolene for knowing how to manipulate Google or whatnot), and I commend the winner whoever it might be every week! We do it for the love of it. I was just taking shots in the dark based on design aesthetics that I'd noticed in other stamps of my guessed country— that was my method. In a way it's funny that we all collect different countries because of how they make us feel, even though, let's be honest, stamps are stamps! They all kind of end up looking the same haha— how much can you do with the amount of space a postage stamp offers? Things have to be visible, legible… Before anything, a stamp has to convey some information like value, country, time period if there's some kind of special overprint commemorative. Beyond that, I don't think stamp makers nowadays really care to do much more than plop a photo of a tree and call it a day. The US has been issuing so many photo stamps it's ridiculous. Then they issue one like the Japanese American soldier stamp from this year and everyone's happy. To each their own!

Pretty please don't end this quiz! It brings such joy to us all every week. We could use it.

I have also noticed that those who play frequently are also some of the same folks who help answer identification threads. While this kind of challenge can be fun, helping others is what makes our hobby so special.

Oh my, I will definitely offer my apologies on my assumption of using "he". Sorry about that!! I probably did that in my Hermes thread years back. A thread which I still can't offer enough thanks for for the incredible help you offered, vayolene. Your knowledge is enviable.
