Quittances (Receipts) 1882 Type "b" by OUDINE Same as "AFFICHES" but inscribed QUITTANCES RECUS ET DECHARGES Perforation guage 13.5
10c Grey
Please check in the design, may be similar type by TASSET
Names are engraved into the design, below the Phrygian cap (Allegory of France?)
(10 year difference)
Note: I am employing Brainerd Kremer Catalogue, which is supposed to be a further study AFTER Forbin, however it still involves a lot of guesswork. Kremer fails to indicate the inclusion of TIMBRE above the effigy
My ID needs to be confirmed, perhaps by a member with MAURY or Yvert

Note: Kremer lists as 1882 (No listing 1881) He lists 10c Grey #5a Dark Grey #5b Safety Wash "Uninked oval area around head." Fond de surete a l'encre grasse ne recouverant pas la tete.

I prefer the OUDINE head, over TASSET, obviously Oudine took his inspiration from the CERES impression on a early coin from Carthage.
Unmistakable as the hair (to me) almost looks like Medusa (snakes) tight bold curls, as seen on the coin.

So yes, a revenue or fiscal stamp. Quittances, reçus et décharges are all terms indicating the fulfillment of a financial obligation.
And yes, a scanner would be a good investment. Much better than a photo from your phone. Makes it easier to get the help you need.

I think your first stamp is Effet de Commerce, 1892, 10c grey, with denomination in black. I'm writing this from the catalogue, as I can't find my French fiscal stamps, such as they are, at present. |
