Hello. Somewhere in my room I have several covers that say "First Trip". Do these have any value in general? I know there may be a certain one that may be worth something but just in general do they have value?
If I come across them, I will post a scan or two.
Thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob,
A free Highway Post Office (HPO) online catalog is located here https://stampsmarter.org/Learning/HPOHome.html

I agree with what has been asked/said so far. I would add that first and last trip HPO covers are almost exclusively contrived philatelic souvenirs made in mass quantities currently exceeding general collector demand. The pricing guidance provided in the Scott Specialized for FDC's applies here as well, to paraphrase a bit: "Values for covers after [c1935] are for those with the most common cachets and addressed. Values for covers after [c1950] are for those with the most common cachets and unaddressed." Bottom line, most HPOS we will encounter will be the commonest cachets and have very modest value. Those with exceptional cachets can command substantial premiums. I happily paid over $100 for a pair of handpainted first trip covers by a very noted cachet artist.

Besides the HPO first and last day cancel dates, for the other dates of use do the HPOs have the "HPO" in the cancel? How would these be priced vs. the first/last day pricing?

Yes. Commercial HPO covers typically range from $5 to $10 each.

Also note that many Last Trip covers typically are quite uncommon, some as few as a handful. These also can carry much more value. Last Trips often were not promoted like First Trips. Last trip mail was already being sent through the Distribution Centers for that mail stream. Last trips often do not carry cachets and are only recognizable by their date stamps.

Thank you, Don, for the informational follow-up.

The HPO catalog is great - really like the pics and cancel details.
