Don Thank you But now I'm out of my league. I cannot connect types to the stamp. Sorry , notwithstanding all the posts - I'm a late beginning with eyesight that is failing. Would appreciate more specific help if you can Thanks Pail |

I do not have the stamp in hand but from the images and to my hobbyist eye it appears to be a 482 (Type 1). Don |

I agree, type I. So it needs to be watermarked to know which stamp it is. |

Simplest way would be to hold it up against a light and see if you see a watermark in the paper. If that fails you can dip it in water or in watermark fluid

These watermarks are a pain to find. I just stuff them all in a stock book and forget about them. |

Looks like a #482 Schermack to me.
The slogan cancel is from 1921 so lends more likely hood the stamp is from the 1916 WF series as opposed to the 1912 WF series. |

My reply will not surprise kcaramat ... Your slogan has text like these two Universal Stamping Machine Company machine cancels: Note the different typesettings. Yours differs somewhat also. In fact, with the breaks in the vertical and horizontal bars, it is from one of the Chicago machines known used from about mid-1920 to January 1921. |
