St Francis of Assisi is particularly revered for his humbleness and piety. There was an exhibit at the National Gallery of Art a couple years back that highlighted the life and death of St Francis. Prior to his death he received the gift of the Stigmata and that was portrayed in many paintings, etchings and drawing, contemporary or shortly thereafter into the 14th century. There is a whole series of Italian issues commemorating the 700 anniversary of St Francis, and although Italy is not a collecting interest I have often considered those issues of that set to collect. If I may add, this stamp does exist with two types of perforation, with different CV. The less valuable is perforated 11, the most valuable is perforated 13 1/2. Though I must say that the difference in CV is much higher for MNH stamps than for used ones. Regards, Gianluca
