Strangely it's always this Mayflower issue that I see on ebay with proofs available. Where are so many people getting these? |

So many of these so-called Progressive proofs on the market especially from European countries. They sell in bulk lots for not much and so should this kindling. |

I wonder if these will show up in Gitner's stamp market tips as "handsome profits". |

A full set of singles (all six) sells at $14.95 per set. So far that seller has sold over six plate proof sheet sets of singles.

Reminds me of what the US Mint does with its enticement to coin collectors to buy all of these artificial scarcities and rarities that further tempt with special proof finishes - for example this gimmick has been used more and more to sell American Silver Eagles or dollar coins (note I do get reverse proof set of the American Innovation coins because I like the designs and this coin series for all strikes is not in any of the sets with circulating and NIFC such as the annual Uncirculated sets --- so yeah I dip my toe in the pool of hype myself).
Didn't this gimmick start with the special presentation book the UPSP sold for the Inverted Jenny stamps of 2013? Those still sell way above face value. They did a proof set with a book about the development of the 19th century railroad with the Transcontinental Railroad stamps - but that one looked interesting and I think if I had the extra cash I would have gotten it. But it wan't anything I was passionate about getting.
Anyway,if you buy because you love the history and the stamp then I see no problem as long as you avoid being completely gouged. |

Presentation book? Hmm I don't think I've seen that in particular, but I have seen the full pane go for less than face because the guy bought a boat load hoping for the verted jenny and was just hoping to recoup some of his losses. The best kind of seller is a desperate one |
