Iceland Skilling Issue Of The Official Stamp

A very tatty copy, being thinned, faded and dirty but I am unwilling to attempt any cleaning up until I know what I have. It fits with the description of O2 but with four clear margins. However, the paper is somewhat thicker than I would associate with a postage stamp and of poorer quality being softer and possibly having fibre inclusions (granite paper?). My first inclination is to think it is simply a cut square from an envelope but here is my question. Were there any preprinted official envelopes issued for these stamps?

First icelandic postal stationeries are from 1879,and the "skilling" period ended in 1876

Thanks vayolene. I guess my follow up questions is going to be, just what on earth is this thing? Does the paper match the stamp issue?

looks like a poor forgery.

According to Yvert catalogue,imperf. copies of official stamp # 2 exist,but I have never seen one.

Scott acknowledges the imperforate as well with an added note that they are without gum. That is why I am after some description of the paper used. I think that would be the clincher as to what it is.

Thanks for all the feedback. Having a picture of an authentic stamp is proving to be very helpful in identifying it as a probable forgery.

And it's current home is with unidentifiable Cinderella's, Christmas seals probable fiscal. It shall remain. Every country has a page or so of these.
