I just received this stamp I won at auction, it's got a pse certificate from this July graded XF 90. was super happy with it, scanned it.

However, when I took out of the glassine to examine it, there is very strange clear coating on top. Very small drops in a couple places on the stamp. It sparkles with reflection. How did PSE miss that? Or do they not consider that damage? And thoughts on how I could scan it to show up, it's clear, and only shows up on an angle. Bad Picture but you can see the reflection.

Think they will take it back?

Perhaps the stamp was regummed and somehow some of the gum ended up on the front?

It's also possible that the coating you mention was not on the stamp when it was examined by PSE.

Doesn't look regummed and PSE didn't state anything about that, just lightly hinged. Here is a scan.

anyway, I'm bringing it up with the auction house. see what they say.

Personally I would not sweat it but obviously it is your call. I run across stamps that have "things" on them just from being produced and then handled by collectors over the years. Some are extremely minor and others not so much. Nice stamp!

Now, what if this happened after the cert was issued?

If the auction house will take it back, send it back if you want -- anything else is a lot of work and may cost you more than you can get back or want to spend.

If there is no clear answer from the auction house, ask if perhaps the auction house will allow you to send it back to PSE with the question was what I see on the front something that would be mentioned in the cert or not?

Otherwise send it to the PF or APEX for a certificate from them, including asking specifically about what you see on the front.

Yes, this does underscore why examining a lot in person (or by a trusted other) before an auction is helpful.
