It is out of fashion for the most part now but people used to collect only the design portion of postal stationary and those pieces are called "cut squares". The modern approach prefers the entire piece. The purpose of collecting only the squares was to save album space. The Scott US catalog and some albums still price and provide spaces for cut squares and you will see them sold but for the most part the entire piece of stationary is much more desirable.

Hi. Welcome to the forum.
Your pieces are cut-outs from postal stationeries.
Some people collect them, but many people refer to them as " mutilated stationeries"
Here is the one from Hannover

Yes, I collect them.
I call them "Mutilated Stationery Cut Squares"

For pieces of Australian, a Mr. Robin Linke in Western Australia
prints a price catalogue for these.
Varying prices $5 to $50

Please keep them, they need preserving for the years ahead.

For me, I dislike the term "Mutilated Stationery". Postage stamps are sold in booklets and we rip them apart; does this make them "Mutilated Postage booklet"?

I understand the need to encourage the conservation of covers and postal stationery. But we 'turn the other cheek' when it comes to removing stamps from covers; why not do the same with cut square collecting?

Interesting perspective.
I can see where you are coming from.

I adopted the term, from one of my mentors, Mr. Jay Carrigan
whom I hugely respected.
I recall being horrified when he oft replied to my postings, with that terminology. (my stock oft had the ripped and torn)
However, I grew to accept it.

Terminologies often can irritate us, for the slightest of reasons,
The Americanisms, "Go Figure" or "Just sayin"
affect me like fingernails across a blackboard.

I think I read the UK allowed the use of unused cut-outs to prepay for carriage of mail. Of course, it raises the question why you would pay extra for the pre-stamped postcard or cover to cut out the stamp and then glue it onto your own postcard. Whereas the stationary would have been mutilated, the stamp would certainly have retained its value as prepayment of carriage.

Not to mention auto-correct functions changing "ises" in "izes" and "ours" in "ors." My English teacher would not have been amused.

The real trick, of course,
is to train the ability to let things just pass.
"just sayin" is really meaningless, why should I be disquieted?

Trying to stay calm and collected at all times,
requires great perseverence.

I have yet to get there.

I'd suggest being a moderator, would be a degree more difficult.

"Just sayin'" to me translates to "just passing on the information" with no responsibility for its content.

What I don't like is the dismissive "whatever". Butt Retler said it much more eloquently with "frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn".
