Hi Richard,
I also consider people in the context of being either a 'giver' or a 'taker'. In this hobby it seems to me (obviously just a casual observation) that there are more 'takers' than 'givers' and I am interested in what (if anything) might be done to help improve the numbers of 'givers'. As you know, our hobby has always had discussions about its health and what might be done to improve its health. I think that if we increased 'giving' it would in turn improve the health of the hobby. For dealers and anyone else who relies upon the health of the hobby, increasing the amount of 'giving' would return value.

I have no fantasy about changing the 'takers'; they will always do what is only in their self interest including not sharing information. But this should not stop us from seeking ways to encourage 'giving'.

First thread has multiple replies from a number of regular SCF members. Nice replies to interesting questions from a newbie to the area.

The second thread shows the outcome of the help provided in the first thread. The newbie applied to join the APS and purchased a scholarly book on US Postal Rates.

That is a good zero to 60 time and with luck, personal initiative and more guidance, I trust Letterpress may enjoy the ride while later stopping to help others.
