I cant afford to buy stamps catalog as they are very expensive and prefer to use my money buying stamps.
But I like to know what is the value of my stamps. Is there any web site you guys could recommend me to check the value of stamps for free?

Thank you very much.

Sylvain

The website StampWorld.com is incredibly useful. You will need to set-up an account, but the website is free and has lots of resources. The owners do ask for donations.

Sylvain,
what catalogue are you after? most catalogues are dirt cheap, if you are prepared to get a tad older copies.

I began by buying a Stanley Gibbons world for $5
(But now prefer Scott)

I have a kids stamp album for Australia, not a catalogue, but has stamps pictured on each page, I can send that if you wish.

I have 30 or so Old Stanley Gibbons catalogues
whole world 1956
or just "British commonwealth"
Interested?

Pricing stamps : You would look up the ID in the older catalogue
then search eaby for those stamps for sale, to get approx value

I agree with GoshKruse.

There are a lot of warnings to go along with that, though. You have to have the stamp correctly identified. There are so many that look alike that only a quick check will probably point out a rarity that you don't have.

And the prices given are not necessarily what your stamp is really worth. There are factors like gum condition, centering and the presence or absence of faults that can make the value different by sometimes huge amounts.

Classic Cape of Good Hope triangles are a good example, where you have to have them properly identified and make sure you don't have a forgery. Catalog prices reflect exceptional examples with full margins and a light cancel, and even then, such examples can be discounted in real life from catalog valuations. However, a normal heavy cancel takes down the value quite a bit. Small margins or no margins and faults make a triangle worth maybe a couple percent of that catalog value.

Still, catalog prices can tell you if you have a minimal value stamp or one potentially worth a few dollars or better. So take those prices with a grain of salt.
