Japanese Occupation of Truk 1943-44.Moen Island (Harushima) Yonezawa censor seal; U57 Moen Island,Cover to Japan.No Japanese ships were able to get to Truk
after August 1944,save for sporadic visits by Japanese submarines.
The island was bombed in operation "Hailstone (16 feb.44 - 18 feb.44).The island suffered extensive damage to the Japanese military.Thus began months of starvation for the Japanese troops and the remaining civilians in the atoll.Isolated from the rest of the world;the japanese only saw the Americans land on Truk until after the Japanese surrender.
