Paper Types On US Scott 158

I have a very white strip of 3 green Scott 158's with the left stamp showing some missing ink on the bottom left. Im guessing the ink was not enough when printed. What I'm trying to figure out is the paper type. How do you tell the difference between white wove paper and hard white paper? The stamps are on cover November 1874, but they are so much different than other covers I have. The printing is sharp and clear. The paper has not yellowed. When I get to a computer I'll try and get a photo posted.
