Hi all

I was going through some of my stamps and found this 637 that has what appears to be a blue wash printed on the paper. My guess was this stamp was printed after some cleaning on the press.

This is an example of poor plate wiping. What you are seeing is a light film of blue ink.

This is a very common feature on the US rotary press issues of that period. It can also be very light, sometimes clearly streaky.
