This is a beautiful postmark strike. Probably carried be the RMS Nascopie during its 1936 arctic voyage.

Here is another, and more recent postmark.

That is exactly what I think it is Gilles. Eastern artic mail. Too bad it was not postmarked by the ships P.O. oval cancel of the Nascopie itself.

Thanks all for the replies and the reference pointing to the RMS Nascopie. It sent me on a search to find out more, which led me to these very interesting links.

To be honest, I am happy this cover was not one of the many thousands of sent for philatelic covers (or so it seems).

I found the recipient (Ara J. Nigosian) 1923-1994, last known address was Benicia, Calif where I was living at the time and at some point picked it up.

The diary of the 1936 voyage was a very interesting read of the day to day for the Arctic traveler.
