I do not know about the usage of differences revenues stamps.
It is interesting to me how a "Drawn out of United Kingdom" stamp would have a US Inland Exchange Revenue stamp on it? One would think that it should be on a US Foreign Exchange Rev Stamp.
What a shame. Someone cut up a really nice document. Any combination nation usages are very nice to find. By 1864, any first issue stamp except for playing cards or proprietary would have been valid to use.
if this is an entire document please show scan of all of it. during the US Civil War period US bills of foreign exchange were usually drawn up in sets of three, and each copy was subject to be taxed. the rate varied by value. the first and second copies were dispatched separately, and the third kept for company records. the receiver {payee) would cash the first one that arrived and if subject to local taxes would be responsible to pay them. stamped examples are known from several different countries. they make a nice addition to any revenue collection.
Thank you revcollector and m and m, this is the whole piece front and back. Yes, it is a shame that this piece was cut from the whole doc. And yes, this is a wonderful piece to have in my revenue collection. I just wish I had studied this venue a whole lot more when I was younger; these rev's are sure interesting and keep me occupied cataloging and researching them!
That would have been an amazing document, were it complete. You rarely see a block of 4 part perfs on any type of document, let alone a dual-country taxation.
For the record, the GB Foreign Bill is either Barefoot #38 1854 (perf16) or #58 1857 (perf 14) Typo De la Rue, surfaced paper Wmk VR Minimal value 1989.
The tax paid on this document would have been a third of the total (3 Bills required) (risk of loss at sea) In 1870 The law changed with the new stamp act. (two duplicates need not bear a tax)
