I believe this stamp is Scott Design A14 (the design used for the 1878 rough perf 1/2 anna red (Sc. #75) and slate blue (Sc. #76) issues and the 1878-80 imperf 1/2 anna red (Sc. #80) and slate (Sc. #81) issues.

I believe the above information will allow you to ID the design in your catalogs.

The image is grey-brown and, unlike Design A14, has circles above and below the frame.

Scott Design A14 is used extensively in both regular issues and officials for the combined state "Jammu & Kashmir", but none are brown or grey or anything similar. Likewise, it was not used in the separate state "Jammu" and the state "Kashmir"

Can you help me identify it? Thanks!!

Looks good but never put in use as a postage stamp. This stamp was faked by Raoul Ch.de Thuin in Mexico but his copy is easy to identify and the above is not one of his .

floortrader, Thanks, appreciate your help! I saw the design in Scott which was not put into service ... but apparently there was at least one other.

It could be an official from 1881(black on coarse yellow wove paper) or the 1887(black on thin toned laid paper).
position 1 in the sheet.
