Just in case anyone missed it, a relatively large price increase went into effect yesterday. It doesn't affect letters, but first class parcel and Priority Mail, both domestic and international, took yet another large jump. Basically, it took the "temporary" holiday increases that were in effect October through December of 2021, made them higher, and then made them permanent. Domestic 1st class and Priority Mail (which isn't anymore) especially are getting out of hand IMO. https://pe.usps.com/pricechange/index

Don: Thank you for the information. I feel sorry for the commercial mailers with some many changes in such a short period of time. |

sorry for "commercial mailers " how about the small sellers who can no longer buy those bulk U.S. mint auction lots and try to save money on their postage cost . It has gotten to the point that a envelope is not large enough to hold all the mint stamps .
I remember the years when you can ship a 10oz. mixture box by parcel post for 88 cents or $1.02 thru the mail to stamp buyers . Today the same box goes for $5.50 to $6.25 ,yes small sellers are getting killed with shipping and taxes on any kind of bulk lot ......world has changed . |

What country do you live in? For packages USPS has to compete with UPS & Fed Ex. Hardly a monolpoly. |

Uhh, actually Rog, it is (indirectly). The current round of price increases only impacts parcels, not letters, so... |

??? What are you on about? The link is to the USPS page that has various file formats covering all the rate increases, both January 9 and the prior "temporary" rate increases.
I'm missing your point completely. |

The USPS has made it clear they want to charge closer to what the competition (FedEx and UPS) is charging so not leaving as much money on the table. The first class rate is still a bargain for many given it is flat rate anywhere in the US.

Angore, I assume you mean first class letters being flat rate, because first class parcel rates are not flat rate. Also, the letter rate isn't what this batch of rate increases is about, nor do first class letters compete with FedEx or UPS. |

I was referring to the rate increase for so-called "flats". If there is a company that I could see taking on last mile delivery for all mail it would be Amazon. They have the reach, creativeness and resources. It is not something I would want to see since I am not a fan of Amazon but they have to be acknowledged. |
