NSK, I am wondering if one can exchange the badly printed one? Or maybe get a better replacement ?

I wonder how Tallents House would react to such a request: "Please sir, could you exchange this FDC for one that has a stamp affixed that has been printed properly?"

I was asking this in earnest. In the States one can exchange a bad cover if I understand that correctly

@Peter,

I do not know whether the weak printing of that stamp occurs on the sheet stamps as well.
Royal Mail, in the past, ordered rolls of stamps to affix tro FDC's. This is the only source for some sideways printed Machins.
I would not be surprised if these covers bear stamps from similar rolls. If so, this could constitute a variety that only exists cancelled from FDCs. Otherwise, there is no better printing available.

If it is a variety, this would make it collectible. So, there would not be a reason to exchange it.
It is not the FDC itself that has been produced badly.

And your question made me wonder how Tallents House (Royal Mail's philatelic bureau) would react.

NSK, I do not collect those. I was rather wondering, since I do collect certain error stamps.
If one orders these do you have to order the set of four?

No, you can order the individual FDCs. I have a standing order for them. In the past, you could only order in advance. I think you, now, can order them up to a few weeks after they have been issued. But this, only, may be possible for special stamps.

The image of the sheet of stamp on Royal Mail's website suggests those stamps do not have the weak printing. But those could be pre-print publicity images.
