I very much like SAN for auction bidding . I for one don't use any of the other features . What problems I have had were minor issues . What we are seeing over the past few months has been the wild bidding of the ebay SELLERS are now slowing down at the stamp auction firms . |

I haven't seen anything lately to make me go wild. I may not even bid in the next Kelleher Collections sale, very disappointed in the WW offerings.
Going back to the original topic, I can see every lot I've bought on SAN with the original lot description, I find this very useful. I don't know if everyone can see this info or just a subscriber. |

Ken R. ----- I found one lot in the next collection's auction I like , will try for it but keeping a price limit to how far I will go .
Their W.W. collections have not been that good ,lots of low common stuff . I call it the nickel and dime stamp assortment . What has been doing good are the Scott's volume one binders , I need to fatten out one or two binders of Scott #1 and then consign them ,those sell well . |

Did you see the recent Noblespirit Volume I? Reserve on it was $25K, it was a collection put together just for resale. https://www.ebay.com/itm/296419802525It sold for $29K but then was relisted and that auction was ended early so I don't know what really happened. I believe a couple of the big collections in this Kelleher sale were relisted from last collection sale. |

Very interesting transaction to sell that collection .
Guess I could say a lot of negative stuff after looking at the scans .
But to me ,I am sorry I threw away all those thousands of damaged, torn, stained ,poor cut into stamps, all those cut squares/envelopes pieces and ragged looking , those stamps went into a trash can , now I wish I just mounted them into a seperate album , I would be 29K richer . |

Yes, I saw that collection from Noble Spirit. That will probably be one of the top collections sold on ebay for 2024. |

"Their W.W. collections have not been that good ,lots of low common stuff"
You mean the big lots or the WW single country lots? |

I'm only talking about WW collections. There are a lot of collections for sale but I haven't seen a high end ($15-25K) collection in over a year. I see a lot of large Scott collections with 20 or more albums but they are not well filled , perhaps 20-30%.

Agree ,lots of collections but the first pages of each country are sparse and it is like everything over $5.00 has been pulled . |

Quote: There are a lot of collections for sale but I haven't seen a high end ($15-25K) collection in over a year. Also agree, but FWIW, the soon-happening Sparks auction has one world lot estimated at $11K (with owner's older catalogue value = over $330,000), albeit a topical collection (Olympics). Its a really nice-looking collection, and were I not so heavily backlogged with covers and stamps needing to be listed (likelihood of ever catching up practically nil...clearly this is a disease), I'd take a swing at it myself. As is nowadays typical, the rest of their WW collections are estimated at $5K and below. |

A 15-25K collection would have to catalog $100,000 to $150,000 . Those type of collections are getting harder to find . Stamp Auction firms are more likely to break them down into countries or area lots .
Your seeing a lot fewer being put together or developed as a collecting interest since the year 2000 , they are usually started in the 1960's and 1970's . |

floortrader - though this is unknowable take a swing. How many 25,000 dollar stamp collections or 100,000-150,000 cat collections do you think exist in the US? exist in the world? |

Greendragon ----- There is a stamp blogger in the country of Finland who try to answer that question a few years ago .
The problem was he got lots of replies . When he try to confirm those answers , he got very little in the way of confirmations . So he drop the whole subject after trying for months to establish somekind of chart or graph on a spreadsheet .
You can be sure that half the claims were boasting and ego's from readers . Then others knew somebody who had a huge collection but forgot their name but remembered the size of the collection .
My guess is that there are between 20 to 50 collectors who have huge worldwide collections, this can best be answered by the top person at some of the larger stamp auction firms . They know who is buying those 5 to $10,000 country collection's and which ones bid over many years .People who are buying $1,000 lots many times a year for many years would be on their radar screen . |
