To me, the terms of engagement lack detail and context so there is no way to answer most of these questions logically.

It's not just the quality of the lots, but the number seems less for stocks of the world in the DK auction.

Shermae --- Your correct it is a hard question to come up with a clear figure .

Years ago when collectors got together at the auction firms for viewing and then the auction ,you could judge who the big collectors were ,especially if you meet there and talked year after year , but this on line bidding and not going to the auctions because it is done online with a computer at home . It becomes guess work .

I do believe those owner of auction firms have a insight of what is out there.

I think there are numerous (1000+) "Stamp Rooms" in the US valued at $25,000 or more. I was recently speaking with the owner of a large ebay consignment operation. He said they have a minimum $35K requirement for consignments and they are overwhelmed with consignments.

On the other hand there are very few Scott 1840-1940 collections that would sell intact at auction for $25,000, in fact the Noblespirit collection is the only 1 I've seen. On the other hand a Volume I collection that sells for $10-15K at auction usually exceeds $25K when broken up and sold by country.

There is a reason for this issue of very few expensive Scott vol. I not many have a high catalog value .

It is a junior album . That means a lot of expensive stamps are not shown plus one more thing there are pictures and spaces for only part of a set of stamps ,so what is happening is you need to break up sets of stamps to different pages .....now that drives me nuts ......I spend $50.00 for a set of six stamps with 4 going to set places on a album page ,then 2 stamps go on a separate pages .....shoot me !...... that is stupid ,that is why I caned my main set of albums 20 years ago and went with Steiner .

Did you see the recent Noblespirit Volume I? Reserve on it was $25K, it was a collection put together just for resale.

Interesting, how would you tell it was put together for resale and not a "lifetime collection" as claimed in the description?

I would think that if a dealer were manufacturing a collection, they'd shoot for a lower price point- something easier to sell than $25,000.
